It’s very possible to create a beautiful website using WordPress, a good theme, and a handful of plugins. But sometimes, off-the-shelf solutions just can’t do exactly what you want or need. This is were customizations come into play.
The WordPress website offers over 10,000 free themes and over 50,000 free plugins. Add to that a myriad of paid themes and plugins and one would think you can accomplish just about anything with a WordPress website. But having built many websites, I’ve run into situations on many occasions where off-the-shelf solutions just don’t exactly fit what a client is looking for.
Theme or Plugin Add-ons
Sometimes, a theme or plugin may cover most of what you need but isn’t exactly right. Often times it’s possible to build a custom add-on that will either add to or enhance the functionality. The positive of this approach is that you don’t have to custom build an entire theme or plugin from scratch but rather simply add onto what you already have. A minor downside to this approach is that the add-on functionality has to be monitored over time as your theme/plugin is updated to ensure it continues to function properly.
Custom Solutions
You have an idea for your website and begin the search. As amazing as this might seem, sometimes you just can’t find exactly what you’re looking for amidst the sea of available options. This is where a custom plugin or theme add-on might be exactly what you need.
